Cooking with the Court Cards : King of Swords

Greetings Tarot Junkies !

I present to you my brand new Tarot versus Food series : Cooking with the Court Cards !

(click here if you missed out on the first series)

A little back story :

When I first started reading Tarot I struggled to understand the court cards, I still do sometimes, and I think that’s perfectly normal. At the time I tried several techniques to understand their energy and I read several books and blogs in the attempt to capture the essence of each court card.

Of course, there is nothing better than experience to better understand these cards, but one thing I learned is that having fun making comparisons with them helps a lot ! You can compare it to the characters of your favorite TV show, film or book, or even to people you know. I personally compare them to cooking styles. Hence the reason for this series !

Cooking with the Court Cards – King of Swords

Ah the King of Swords. I think a lot of people fear him when they get him on a reading ! He is sharp, straightforward, “don’t stand on my way” kind of person. He has experience*, ambition, he knows what he wants, but most of all he is meticulous, strategic, he knows when to strike, and he won’t be merciful if you get on his way.

It really makes me think of a famous TV Chef…. Do you know who I’m talking about ?

Yeap, think about Gordon Ramsay, he is my King of Swords. He knows his craft to perfection !  The meal is planned out and he follows his strategy to the tee, there is no place for mistakes. You don’t know how to chop onions ?  Be quick and get out of his kitchen. Chop chop ! Don’t stand in his way, you’ll get burned !

On the bright side, play your cards right, use reason and logic, search for the best possible move to win, you’ll be in his grace.giphy

In any case, this guy is the best person to learn strategy from. Have you been soft and need you toughen up ?  The King of Swords is your guide !

Much ❤

*I chose to call the King of Swords a “he” just to facilitate things. Of course, a woman can embody the same energy. I don’t even like saying masculine or feminine energy because I truly believe that we all have both inside of us. I do see things in more active or receptive energy. The King of Swords represents to me are more active energy of the mind.

Tarot vs Food – The World vs Water

I love food and I love Tarot! So I thought: why not make a series comparing the major arcana cards to food /food experience?

This is the last post of the series. For those of you who are new here, you can check out the older posts right here.

This week, for the last time,  I present to you:

CHAPTER 21 – The world VERSUS water

The only thing that I can compare the World to  is water. There is just no other possibility for this card. First because the world, as in the planet Earth, is the blue planet, the water planet; secondly because everything is made of water (remember I said our bodies is made of 75% of water – check the chapter 18 – The Moon versus Tofu), therefore there is no World without water and no water without the world.

Water is the source of life, it’s the flow of life, it’s what allows us to live, it’s what makes us exist. Without water we wouldn’t be here. Everything begins and ends with water. Everything begins and ends with The World. It’s the zero card before the actual zero (The Fool). It’s the completion of everything, enlightenment, celebration, manifestation.

The WorldIt’s the card of completion and connexion (the “O”), confidence (naked woman), of joy (dancing), of victory (the lauréat) but also intelligence (the man), courage (lion), will power (bull) and wisdom (the eagle). It’s the completion of a journey where we’ve learned to master ourselves and live in harmony with the world around us. It’s THE card.

Whenever I get the world in a reading I have the impression of feeling whole, complete, healed. Just like when I drink water in a hot summer day, or even in a cold winter night. I also love water in the morning or before going to sleep. It’s just so perfect for every occasion. We make food with water, we wash ourselves with water. In some religions water is used to bless children, to wash sins, to connect with Spirit. The World card is the ultimate connection between the human world and spirit. We are all one. And that’s why I think about water when I think about this card.

Think about it this way :

  • The planet Earth is mainly made of water
  • Our bodies is mainly made of water
  • Nature is mainly made of water and depends on water
  • The atmosphere is mainly water
  • We are all water, we are all one.

What a ride it’s been ! It’s been 10 months since I started writing this series and I have had a blast ! Some posts came quite easily to me, others were really difficult. I had the help from tarot friends, as well as help from non-tarot friends.

It’s the final post and I have to say I have mixed feelings, it’s bitter-sweet. In one hand I’m so happy to have completed the series, on the other hand I’m feeling kind of sad.

In any case, I just want to say thank you to all of you who have accompanied me in this challenge I’ve set myself. Your comments and support were very important to me.

Rest assured it’s not the end of the blog and I’m already cooking a new series ! I’ll keep you all on the loop ! 😉

a huge THANK YOU ❤

Tarot vs Food – The Judgement vs Dessert

I love food and I love Tarot! So I thought: why not make a series comparing the Major Arcana cards to food /food experience?

So if you new here, don’t hesitate to check the other posts right here !

This week,  I present to you:

Greetings Tarot friends,

The Judgement card is just like dessert in a restaurant.

IMG_1636This major Arcana card is a realisation, a spiritual awakening, a call out to action. To me, it’s the climax card. The card that sums up everything that has led you to this point in life. It’s the announcement that it is time to make a review of what’s past, finish up the lessons you’ve learned and move forward to the next phase. A lot like dessert in a restaurant !

I mean it !

Think about it this way, when you take that first bite of the dessert you’ve ordered, your whole world turns around, you hear chimes and angelic music. You look back at the meal you’ve just had and you realise that every single dish you’ve eaten tonight has led you to this amazing delicate, yet full of flavours, dessert. Every bite sends shivers to you body and the whole fancy restaurant experience sinks in.

No more late night burguers or hot dogs. No more frozen food. No more kraft dinner. Now you know what good food is ! Never again you’ll eat food that does not bring pleasure, never again you’ll eat food that isn’t worth eating. All this is inside that dessert in this amazing restaurant. It’s your foodie awakening ! Now you’re not going to be a half way foodie, you know that everything you’ve experienced until this fancy, Michelin starred restaurant was your preparation in order to step into the real foodie that you are.

The Judgement is the card that says : ‘That’s it. Enough !”. Enough of not doing the things you love, enough of doing things that are bad for you. It’s the time to weight the past and figure out where you want to go next. You have no choice, you must follow the calling, because you are now completely awake to your reality, both spiritual and mundane. Otherwise, the card will just keep calling you until you respond.

So what are you waiting for to start making some changes in your life ?

Tarot vs Food – The Sun vs Pizza

I love food and I love Tarot! So I thought: why not make a series comparing the Major Arcana cards to food /food experience?

I have been away for a loooong time  and it’s been quite difficult to find the time and energy to write on the blog. Anyways… I promised myself I would finish these series so here it is: a brand new chapter on Tarot vs Food !!

This week,  I present to you:

Greetings tarot foodies !

This is week I’m going to share with you my love for Pizza and the major arcana card the Sun. Before I dive into my explanation of why I chose pizza as comparison I’d like to point out a few reasons why I particularly love this card :

  • My Sun is in Leo and Leo is ruled by the Sun !
  • I m originally from a tropical country where I grew up with lots of sunlight and god knows how much I miss the Sun during the winter time and how I blossom in the summer (something I noticed when I moved to France)
  • I believe this card has an amazing optimistic feel to it
  • I value honesty and clarity, and this card really speaks to me in regards to finding clarity about a situation.

So now that you understand a little bit more about my connection with the Sun card, let’s talk about Pizza !

I love pizza, any pizza. From fancy pizza to greasy disgusting pizza. Pizza is one of those things that quickly become part of a family tradition, which was the case in my family : Sunday nights = pizza night (note : Sun-day night = pizza night ), celebrating an achievement at school = pizza, watching a soccer game with friends = let’s order pizza, Tuesday’s with the boyfriend, home-made pizza.

Pizza has had an incredible role in my life being part of major events and special moments.

So how do I put pizza and the Sun together ? where should I begin ?

I believe eating pizza with someone is a moment of :

  1. Truth : because you finally get to know someone when they eat pizza. Are they the ones that eat with their hands or with a knife and fork? Do they remove some of the ingredients ? Are they crust eaters or not ? Do they like catchup or olive oil ? Do they prefer classical flavours or yuppie flavours ? ( you can learn a lot about someone just by eating pizza with them ! This is what I call my moment of clarity )
  2. Intimacy : because you reveal a lot about your personality when you eat pizza, I believe it creates a moment of intimacy and we see people for who they are, no more masks ( that we had with the Moon). So this is the Sun’s light shining brightly revealing every detail about you.
  3. Happiness : I don’t know about you guys, but I’ve never went out with friends or my family to eat a consolation pizza. I break up with someone I love or I lose my job I’m not going to eat pizza ! I’m gonna dive into a bucket of ice cream ! Or even better a bottle of wine ! Pizza is for celebrating something ! It’s a fun-loving, carefree moment that you share with people who make you feel happy !

Sounds a lot like when we get the Sun in a reading, doesn’t it ?

A lot like the Sun, eating pizza does bring me back to that safe place of child like innocence, faith, optimism, happiness and light. Every time I get the Sun in a reading I quickly light up to a smile of joy, just like when someone invites me over for pizza !

Hmm…. I think I might just have to go make a reservation for pizza night !

What about you? Which food lights you up ?

Much ❤

Tarot vs Food – The Moon vs Tofu

I love food and I love Tarot! So I thought: why not make a series comparing the Major Arcana cards to food /food experience?

So if you new here, don’t hesitate to check the other posts right here !

This week,  I present to you:

Greetings Tarot junkies,

I’ve been thinking a lot about the energy of the Moon lately. It’s crazy how the Moon affects us in deep levels. I don’t know about you guys, but I always find it amazing how the Moon affects my sleep (during Full Moons you’ll often see me with dark circles under my eyes), my mood (I’m girl and I have to say my body is complete sync with Moon cycles if you know what I mean…*) and even my dreams !

It’s crazy to think that the Moon affects the sea tides the way it does. Think about it : our body is made of 75% of water at least ** , if the Moon affects the ocean , why wouldn’t it affect us ? And still you’ll find some people out there that will say that this is all B.S  ! Let them be… you and I are on to something ! 😉

The Wild Unknown Tarot

The Wild Unknown Tarot

Anyways, so I believe this card will often show up in a reading when we don’t want to see something that is right in front of us, or when we are looking from a weird angle. And because of this I was struggling to find a food comparison until yesterday ! The boyfriend and I went to a Japanese restaurant where I ordered a miso soup with little dices of tofu. After the first sip of the soup when I tasted the saltiness of the miso plus  that something (with a  strange consistency, no taste, no colour, but still filling) called tofu,  it hit me :  when we get the Moon in a reading it’s just like when we eat tofu !

You probably think I’ve lost my mind, but think about this :

  • The Moon is round like a cheese, but it isn’t cheese, tofu it’s said to be cheese but it isn’t.
  • Tofu seems to have a cheese consistency, but it doesn’t it’s more like jello, only that it isn’t jello either.
  • The Moon is super shiny in the sky, it emanates a lot of light, only that it doesn’t , it reflects light from the Sun !
  • Tofu seems like it is protein, but is it ? I don’t buy it !
  • The Moon seems to disappear from time to time but it’s still there ! It never really disappears !!

You see where I’m going with this ?

Tofu and the Moon play tricks in your mind. You believe it’s one thing only to find out later that it wasn’t exactly that thing you thought it was… It’s more like that thing, but with a different touch when not completely opposite, amirite ?

So I believe that it is completely normal to feel absolutely confused when you take the Moon card in a reading. Just like when you eat tofu, you don’t really know what the Moon is trying to tell you apart from the fact that you might be slightly confused or being mislead.

My advice in this situation is*** : when you find the Moon in a reading, or when you eat Tofu, doesn’t matter which one comes first, just look for the piece of information, or ingredient, that isn’t there but that it should’ve been !

Let me know how that goes for you !

Much ❤

*Yes, I know too much information, however I think I shouldn’t be ashamed of my body. That’s how women are, so if you don’t like, I’m sorry I’ve offended you by talking about my period, but I think it’s important to demystify this natural function of the female body.

** I keep seeing different proportions for these 65%, 70%, 80%, 85%, so I just went with 75% to say that it’s the majority of our bodies.

*** I know I didn’t really go into details about the unconscious mind versus the conscious mind, of the symbology of the card like the crab, wolf, dog, pillars, path and everything else. Like most Major Arcana, the Moon is a rich card full of meaning. So for the purpose of this post I decided to stick with a simple one : confusion.

Tarot vs Food – The Star vs Tea

I love food and I love Tarot! So I thought: why not make a series comparing the Major Arcana cards to food /food experience?

So if you new here, don’t hesitate to check the other posts right here !

This week,  I present to you:

CHAPTER 17 -The Star VERSUS tea

Greetings Tarot and Tea enthusiasts  !

I don’t even know how to begin ! I think the Star is one my favorites cards of the Major Arcana ! It was definitely the first one I understood in a profound soul level way. I would need to write a book about the Star in order to be able express everything that I feel about this card, but since this is only a post, I’ll try to keep it short !

IMG_1473The Star card is often associated with Hope, Healing, Innocence, Fertility, Blessings and so many other positive words. It can show up in readings in many different circumstances : wether it appears as the present moment, past, future, obstacle, advice, action or  state of mind,  the Star always carries a deeper message with her.

I remember a time when I was going through a difficult time and the Star kept showing up in all of my readings as if it was trying to tell to not lose hope, not to lose my innocence and natural optimism. It was telling not to allow myself to give in to the dark side of my thoughts.

But what does this have to do with drinking tea ?

I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one who has  noticed the waves of warmth filling your heart when you drink a hot cup of tea in a cold winter night, or the sensation of freshness that only a jug of iced tea can bring on a hot Summer day. If you are a tea lover, you’ve felt it too…  These sensations are very similar to when the Star shows in up in reading ! It can be the little message you needed to release your worries and find comfort in the deep corners of your mind.

When it comes to healing I am very positive you can find a million tea recipes for different sorts of health troubles. I remember my grandmother and my own mother making me drink camomille tea when I was sick of my stomach as little kid. Or how they would make this infusion of lime, garlic and ginger for whenever I had a cold ! (I know sounds gross… Maybe that’s why it worked ! Whenever they would mention this I would suddenly start feeling much better !) So maybe by now you start to understand why I connect the Star to drinking tea/infusions : they both bring  healing.

When the Star shows up to me I always think about the fact that it is important to get rid of the mask, remove the ego and allow our spirit to run through us so we can find the innocence that we once had. This innocence is so important because it allows us to see everything with new loving compassionate eyes. When we are free of our own ego, we are free to nurture our souls and when we do this, we create, we love, we shine and we rise.

I guess that whenever I drink tea I feel a little bit of all of the above. It’s a moment where nothing else matters. I’m completely connected in the moment. What about you ? 😉

Much ❤
